GEN X ISTYLE

Today’s woman has the future in mind and an intelligent women looks out for a guy who treats her well and is more of a buddy rather then a jailer.
Coffee Day. October 31. We find Neha Agrawal cootchicooing with her new guy and suddenly her eye falls on a blue-eyed guy on the next table. She gives him a smile, and in return he winks. “This should work out,” she murmurs to herself.
The days are gone when guys persuaded gals. The wheel has turned and so have the tables and it’s women who’re doing the asking.
A lowdown on the kind of men women want. So here goes… “You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like if you like movies, he should like it that you like movies, and he should keep the chips and dips coming,” says 20-year Tina Sen. What’s it that attracts the girls? Is it the sweet mushy kind or someone with a great physique? “It’s difficult to choose,” says a confused 17-year Shubana. Today’s woman has the future in mind and an intelligent woman looks out for a guy who treats her well and is more of a buddy rather then a jailer. “My friends opinions helps me take decisions, as I would like someone who’s worthwhile and has respect in the society,” says 22-year Kalpana. “A girl wants a guy who has a strong sense of responsibility and should be aware of his plans future. We need someone who gives us an equal say and understands if we reach late to meet them or when we have a number of guy friends,” says 19-year-old Reena.
“Today the girl knows her likes and dislikes and she thinks before making a commitment,” says Savita Date Menon, psychologist, Apollo Hospital. “He should be well dressed, need not be after costly labels as such but should have decent sense of dressing,” says 19-year shilpa who loves partying.
“Knowing about the person’s personality and character are so important. One good test is to list the qualities that attract us to that guy or girl. If the list is long, we know a lot about them and like those things. If the list is short, we either don’t know a lot about them or we know a lot but aren’t attracted to his or her personality,” says Savita Menon.
On the other hand the preferences of the other sex, the male brigade continues to be what it was a few decades earlier. “A relationship where the woman is attractive, dresses well, doesn’t demand too much and is intelligent is an irresistible combination,” says Rehan. He forgets to throw in a BMW and a Swiss bank balance to the list!
“We usually go for an attractive girl. We look out for someone who can be a buddy. We expect the girl not to be too pushy and as we look out for an easy relationship without commitment,” says Sahil, a medicine student.
“But they don’t throw light on such issues in the beginning of a relationship. All this is put in later,” says Sonia Malik. “They say that they don’t know what’s going to happen next and would expect the girls not to have too many expectations with them,” says Sumitra Dev. “I’ve seen my friends break-up relationships due to silly commitments,” she adds.
Infatuation can be so tempting isn’t it? It isn't a bad thing, as long as we don't base a relationship on it. Being uninvolved is the whole idea of having a satisfying relationship.
It's love at first sight and before it’s realized we land up with a blissfully riding off into the sunset.

A Straight Road To Study Abroad

Interested in going abroad? Here are the preliminary details on how to go about it.
CHECKLIST:
Begin your search for colleges and visit the nearest educational advising center and the library. Explore college sites on the web. Talk with family, friends, and acquaintances who may have studied in the US. Write to 10-15 schools for more information. Apply for a passport if you do not already have one. Start preparing for the TOEFL exam and other admissions tests (e.g., GRE, GMAT, or SAT). Register and take the TOEFL exam and other admissions tests in time. Don’t lose the opportunity. Go to the consultant and discuss the programs you would like to apply and the Universities. Go though college materials, web sites, applications and backtrack the deadlines to allow yourself enough time to complete them. Remember to allow for delays in the mail and don’t panic. Keep narrowing your list of schools. Write and send a draft of your application essays and statement of purpose to the university. Get comments on it from friends and the consultant. If you want to try improving your scores on the TOEFL and other exams, register and take the second set of tests. Ask your teachers/lecturers to write letters of recommendation for you. Complete your essays and application forms, including the financial aid application forms. Ask your schools/university for the certified copies of your academic transcripts. Respond promptly to any requests by the university for additional information. After that you will start hearing from colleges. Contact your consultant and the admissions office if you do not receive anything from them. Accept one school's offer, and notify them and the others of your choice. Ask the school to send you the I-20 or IAP-64 form. Make permanent housing arrangements if you will be staying on-campus, temporary housing
arrangements if you will be living off-campus. Prepare for your visa interview and apply for a visa. Attend a pre-departure orientation programs in your consultancy. Make travel arrangements. Plan to arrive at least 15 days prior to orientation.
Kriss Jagarlamudi, a former student of American education, who studied and lived in New Jersey, gives us the information; he’s worked in the offices of international admissions and financial aid. And later came to India and started an educational consultancy named First Counsel.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
Each school sets its own admission requirements. Because of the large number of
international students seeking a US education, the schools do not make exceptions to
their requirements. Most schools require a minimum of a high school diploma with solid
coursework in science, mathematics, English, and humanities. They will also require
academic entrance examinations such as the TOEFL, SAT, GRE, and GMAT. The higher
your scores on these exams and the better your grades, the better your chances of being
admitted. Generally you must have a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale to be
admitted, especially for graduate school. Some schools set very high standards for
admission. The better-known institutions are often among the most competitive. While every
international student would love to attend Harvard University or the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, not every student will be admitted. Certain fields of study are
also highly competitive. These include engineering, computer science, pre-medicine, pre-
law, architecture, and marine biology. To apply for a graduate or professional degree program, including medical school, law school, veterinary school, and dental school, you must first obtain an undergraduate bachelor's degree. Law students must also generally be licensed attorneys in their own countries before applying for admission to a US law school.

FINANCIALS:
Education abroad is extremely expensive. Financial aid is very limited and is limited to a smaller portion of the students. The student may be able to obtain similar education in
India at a much lower cost. So the student will have to balance the cost against the prestige and quality of a foreign education. With the large number and variety of colleges and universities in the US, you are certain to find one that matches your needs and interests, no matter what your criteria. College admission in the US is extremely competitive, especially among international students. If you do not have a strong academic background, sufficient financial resources, and proficiency in the English language, you will be at a disadvantage in the admissions process. ISLP is an alternative loan program for international students to study in US colleges and universities. The loans are funded by the Bank of Boston and Education Aid and guaranteed by TERI. Students may borrow up to the full cost of education, including tuition, fees, and room and board. Graduate students may borrow a maximum of $15,000 per year. The minimum loan amount is $2,000 per academic year. Students may take up to 25 years to repay the loan. There is a $50 minimum payment and some deferment provisions. The interest rate is the prime lending rate. A creditworthy US citizen or permanent resident must co-sign the loan. There is a 5% guarantee fee for undergraduate students and a 6% guarantee fee for graduate students.

VISAS:
“There are three types of student visas”, says, Kriss Jagarlamudi, the Chief Executive of First Counsel- Excellence in recruiting the highest caliber of students to the American & Canadian College & Universities.
“F-1 (Student Visa): The F-1 visa is for full-time students enrolled in an academic or
Language program. F-1 students may stay in the US for the full length of their academic
program plus 60 days. F-1 students must maintain a full-time course load and complete
their studies by the expiration date listed on the I-20 form.
J-1 (Exchange Visitor Visa). The J-1 visa is issued for students needing practical training that is not available in their home country to complete their academic program. The training must be directly related to the academic program. The J-1 visa obligates the student to return to their home country for a minimum of two years after the end of their studies in the US before being eligible to apply for an immigrant (permanent residence) visa.
M-1 (Vocational Student Visa). The M-1 visa is issued for students attending non-academic trade and vocational schools. The M-1 visa is valid for at most one year. Recipients of an M-1 visa may not change fields of study. Switching from an M-1 visa to a F-1 visa is not permitted.
Of these, the F-1 and the J-1 are the most common for international students.
F-1 Visa applicants who receive their I-20 from a U.S. university or academic program often have to do an interview with a consular officer before they receive their visa.
During the few minutes of the interview, an F-1 Visa applicant must explain how he/she will pay for school costs and living expenses. He/she also has to prove that he/she will not become an immigrant, but is going to return to the home country after studying in the U.S. If the applicant cannot prove this, the consular officer is required to refuse the visa”, says Kriss.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to show his: -
Strong ties to your home country
The intent to return home after completion of the course of study
Access to financial assets that are necessary to support the course of study
Consular officers decide in a very short time if you are qualified to receive a visa.
Most cases are decided after a brief interview and review of whatever evidence you
present. An officer might also ask you other questions, as well.

Other tips that will be helpful during a Student Visa interview:
Anticipate that the interview will be conducted in English and not in your native language. Practice English conversation with a native speaker before the interview. Consular officers are under considerable time pressure to conduct a quick and efficient interview, so, keep your answers to the officer's questions short and to the point. Be polite. Do not argue with the consular officer. If you are denied a student visa, ask the officer for a list of documents you could bring in order to overcome the refusal. Try to get the reason for the denial in writing.
Make it clear to the officer that you expect to return to your home country as soon as you
complete your studies.
The exhaustive particulars will have many an aspiring student packing his bag and baggage and getting set to go. What will be his life there? Here is a brief shared by a student who has been there for quite sometime now.
“Life out here is fun, but I miss India very much. Along with my studies and work, I make time for myself to work out”, says Siddharth Daga, studying Bachelors of Business Administration in Arizona University. “I am also working to manage my normal expenses. The tuition out here is expensive on average it turns out to be Rs.6 lakhs per year. Every university makes money by admitting international students. Each cost is more expensive than the west. Tuition for instate students is much cheaper, on average they pay Rs.2 lakhs”, he puts in. “If an International student want to work they can only work on campus, as off-campus work is illegal. They can only work for 20 hours a week during their enrollment in a college, otherwise during holidays they can work for 40 hours a week. Minimum the student can earn is $5.15 per hour and maximum depends on how much they are willing to pay. Approximately a student earns $500 per month”, says Siddharth. “ Well life here is hard for Indian students who come from a land where they get used to live with loved ones and surrounded by people who care. India is our home land, so you can understand how it feels!” he puts in sadly. “Life in US is hard. We got to earn and pay. Finding a job out here isn’t easy here as it’s a competitive world and it’s the survival of the fittest. The best ones get the cake. Everyone will have to stand for him or herself. It becomes impossible to make true friends, but it’s no doubt that Indians can survive here because they have got the killer instance and are hardworking. Any day Indians outcome the Americans as Hard work Rewards”, says Siddharth cheerfully.

Vayaputra Nagarjuna – Dubbing artist

The spirit to live life to the fullest, that’s Vayuputra Nagarjuna for you, a commerce lecturer in Little Flower Junior College, Uppal whose one of the most sought after dubbing artist in the Telugu film industry today. He is now the latest trend after popular dubbing artists like Sai Kumar and Ratan Kumar.
His voice was noticed for the first time in Tipu Sultan (Telugu remake) where he dubbed for Sanjay Khan and has done many other Manjula Naidu’s serials.
He has dubbed in 150 films, like for Venu (Chirunavvutho and Hanuman Junction), Suman (Lahiri Lahiri Lahiri Lo), Prabhudeva (Santhosham), for Prithivi, Vineeth, Akash, Anand, and many other villains and actors in their films. Premakosam, Jandam, and Swayamvaram were some of his other hits. He has the success of ‘Premalo Pavani Kalyana’ the latest super hit in his kitty where he dubbed for the hero Deepak and has many more in line. Speaking to Hyderabad Times Entertainment in Little Flower Junior College, Vayuputra Nagarjuna says, “I always wanted to become an actor but when I lost my leg in an accident I realised it would be difficult to manage college and films. I would get tired”. But that didn’t let him down. He tried his hand at Yuva Vani (radio) where he recited poetry people were taken back there with his voice, presentation and his voice modulation. He then was a casual announcer in AIR and News presenter in Doordarshan. He says, “I wasn’t happy with the remuneration, as it was peanuts. So I focused towards dubbing. The compliments I received in Yuva Vani encouraged me to become a voice caster”. He then got a break to make jingles and for advertisements, which were spot recordings; there he received a break in a movie (Eerrasainyam) to dub for a naxalite. He shares an experience with Producer R.Narayana moorthy, while dubbing for this movie, “It was the first time I was working with him and he gave me a full-page dialog. I did it without a retake. All the character artists, producers, directors stood up and gave a loud applause. With every such experience I developed more and more confidence”, he puts in excitedly. Such experiences made Vayaputra Nagarjuna a seasonal artist. Whether it was for a character of a lover boy or a dangerous villain he has done it all. He is now the latest trend after popular dubbing artists like Sai Kumar and Ratan Kumar.
Is proper time of delivery of speech the secret behind perfect dubbing?
He disagrees with this statement. He says, “It’s neither your face on the screen, nor it’s your time of delivery that gives an impact. It’s necessary to match the actor’s actions within the limitation is where one has to prove oneself. One is a good dubbing artist when people wouldn’t be able to make out whether the actor voice has been dubbed or not.” He advises the young upcoming artists not to join this field if it’s with the intention of becoming a celebrity. “The field looks very attractive but it’s very different from acting. But if someone has got a good voice and modulation he should definitely try but should not entirely depend on dubbing, as the remuneration is not even five percent of what a star gets. The industry has a step motherly treatment towards the dubbing artist’s, as the whole responsibility of the film does not depend on the dubbing artist. Keep other alternatives in mind and educate yourself well and that will lead you to achieve anything in life”, he says cheerfully.

Lawrence-Coreographer

Lawrence a favourite choreographer for actors like Rajnikanth and Chiranjeevi never had to look back after his movies like Hitler and Master. People just loved his choreography after that and has become the life of Telugu and Tamil industry. We catch Lawrence choreographing a ‘gundammo gundammo’ song, for a B.Gopal direction film casting Balakrishna and Aarti Agrawal at Padmalaya studios. Aarti says that, “Lawrence garu is a good friend. I plead him sometimes to change my steps when it gets difficult for me. But he shows confidence in me and makes me practice a little more until it becomes comfortable”.
When we ask Lawrence about his passion for dance, he says, “Youngster’s love to dance to my steps”. “They tell me that my choreographed numbers are a hit in their school functions”, he says excitedly. I make most of my steps keeping the masses and youngsters in mind “I am not a born dancer, my belief in my talent and my hardworking nature was my first step to success. My systematic practice and self-confidence is all what I had. I had a paralytic attack up to the age of seven. One part of my body wasn’t functioning at all. It’s because of God’s grace I am here. I had no helping background in the industry. I started as a small time dancer and came to this level now. God is always there to do justice to our hardwork.

It was Superstar Rajnikanth’s recommendation, which gave me a chance to join film industry. Rs 10,000/- was payed to Dancer’s Association on my behalf and bought the card for me. I was trained under choreographers Shiva Shankar and Prabhu Deva. I became a full-fledged dance master in just two years. For a year, I worked for small productions. It was Chiranjeevi who spotted me and offered me the film Hitler. I always knew that the 'Veena Step' in Indra for 'Daayi Daayi damma' would become a big craze once the film released. Chiranjeevi gave his best and spent 9 hours practicing that Veena step in New Zealand. “Lawrence I am sweating” was what he told me. Rajnikath is a great dancer. While working with him in Baba, I got very conscious. But later I got used to it. Young bubbly actors like Mahesh Babu, Junior NTR, are very professional on the sets. They give me the satisfaction at the end of it. Bala Krishna still continues his spirit and puts his soul into his dance.

In the beginning people always asked me why did I have separate group of dancers from Chennai and why didn’t I encourage local lads from Hyderabad. Hyderabadi dancers were not as good as now when I started my career. I used to have 30% dancers from Hyderabad and now it has increased to 60%.

As I am a big devotee of Lord Raghavendra Swamy, my ambition always was to build a temple for him. I have built a temple for him in Madras. One day, I will make the biggest temple for him and that’s my dream. After a long time I made a debut as a hero in this run of the mill story ‘Arpudham', a Super good Production's Tamil film that was released on the 12th of September. I am currently doing another film called 'Style' in Tamil. I am also ready to do good massy item numbers.
I give my full commitment to the producer and I would like to honestly admit that it's the team’s work and the actor and actress’s commitment, which gives the ultimate hit.
“I still get worried sometimes when I get the songs for Choreographing. The tunes and the beats scare the wits out of me but still I put my best in it to make it a hit. I listen to the rhythm and beat and I automatically begin to move to the music. Keeping the hero in mind as each one has a style I compose the dance moves. I study the actor’s body language and compose steps that suit their body language. I also keep the fans of that particular hero in mind and accordingly compose steps that exhilarate those fans”, says he.

The secret of Cleopatra’s beauty

Times News Network
Cleopatra used it to enhance her beauty. Mahatma Gandhi took it to sustain himself during his long fasts. Some call it ‘the miracle plant, some the ‘medicine chest’ but without a doubt the plant in question, aloe vera, is one of nature’s most valuable gifts.

Nature’s pharmacy
Aloe is a cactus like plant, which belongs to the onion, garlic, lily and asparagus family. It is the nutrient-rich, life-nurturing gel of this unique plant that accounts for its success. This natural gel contains anti-oxidants, minerals and amino acids. Aloe Vera is also a natural antibiotic. Aloe vera works on two areas. It enhances your immune system and cleanses the body.

Anti-aging agent
Aging of the skin is characterised by thinning and wrinkling of the epidermis, combined with the appearance of lines, creases, age spots and furrows in the face. Aloe vera has been found to reverse degenerative skin changes by stimulating collagen and elastin synthesis, in essence turning back the clock on the effects ageing has on skin.

Moisturiser par excellence
One of the main reasons aloe vera has become so popular is that it possesses incredible moisturising properties. Studies show that aloe vera improves the skin's ability to hydrate itself, aids in the removal of dead skin cells and has an effective penetrating ability that helps transport healthy substances through the skin. Each of these factors make aloe vera an ideal ingredient in cosmetic and dermatological products. In fact, aloe vera is currently one of the most important ingredients in the cosmetics industry, being utilised in over 95 per cent of the dermatologically valuable extracts manufactured worldwide.

Medicine chest
Millions of people all over the world suffering from arthritis, asthma, and skin disorders are having incredible success with aloe vera. It is no wonder that it is called ‘nature’s pharmacy.’

One word of caution though. There are many products in the market that claim to contain aloe vera. Before you pick up a product that claims to have aloe vera in it, check if the product is genuine. And one way of doing this is to check if the product has the International Aloe Science Council’s seal of approval.
The numerous medical benefits of aloe vera definitely make it the queen of medicinal plants. And a daily dose of aloe is sure to keep the doctor away for a long, long time.

A perfect fitness routine

These diet tips will help you to stay in great shape during summer holidays
Don’t let your training and nutrition program spoil your holidays this summer, but there's also no reason to let your holidays spoil your training and nutrition program either!
Stay in great shape during these holidays by following this simple routine
Aim to stay on your fitness program over the holidays:
Not only do most women fail to plan, they consciously plan to fail over the festival holidays. Most of them expect to "blow" their diet and skip workouts over the Diwali preparations and celebrations. They expect to eat more, to exercise less and to gain weight. As a result, they don't even make the effort.
You can avoid this trap by planning to succeed through Diwali - remember this festival depicts victory. Set up a positive expectation. Keep your standards up and don't settle for less! All you have to do is make the right (realistic) decision and expect success.
Plan all your workouts in advance.
You know your schedule is going to get hectic for a week. You'll be cooking, shopping, attending the haphazard routine of the family, going to parties, traveling, visiting friends, and so on.
To stay on your training and nutrition regimen is definitely going to take some sound time management skills.
Plan your schedule in advance. Anticipate what's coming up. Write it down. Put it on your calendar. By doing so, you won't be caught unprepared.
Use a schedule book or monthly calendar and "make appointments" for ALL your workouts for the next six weeks well in advance. Then, paste a copy where you will be forced to look at it every day.
This is a powerful exercise that will keep you focused and force you to think about and prepare for each upcoming workout.
If you try to squeeze in your workouts and meals whenever you have time left over, you'll find that there never IS any time left over!
Somehow your daily activities always seem to "expand" to fill the hours in every day. So schedule your workouts and meal times in your calendar just like you would any other appointment or event. Once you've done that, stick to your schedule religiously.
Set some compelling training and fitness goals over the holiday period.Goal setting should not be a once a year affair, it should be a continuous on-going process. You should always have your goals in writing and your list should be regularly updated and rewritten. If you only set goals once a year, you're not going to accomplish much in your life.
Give yourself permission to have a planned "cheat day."A planned "cheat day" helps you to stay on your program better in the long run. If you're too strict all the time, you're setting yourself up for cravings and bingeing. One cheat meal per week will have only a minor effect on your physique.
If you've been on a strict, low carb and/or low calorie regimen, a cheat meal might actually be good for you. It will boost your metabolic rate and give your body the signal that you're not starving and that it's ok to keep burning a lot of calories.
Also, when you do have your cheat meal? ENJOY IT! If you're going to eat it and feel guilty, then don't have it at all. If you've stayed with the program all week long, then when "cheat day" rolls around, you deserve it!
If you fall off the fitness wagon, get right back on it.Even if you fall completely off the wagon, don't beat yourself up. Get right back on your program without missing another second.
Many women think their entire diet is ruined by one fall. They feel as if everything they've done prior to that day was wasted and there's no sense going on. Or even worse, they drop out.
Just because you mess up once doesn't mean you should quit! You're only human. Don't let one small slip keep you derailed. Firmly plant your wheels back on the tracks and start rolling again.
Maintain your consistent eating schedule. If there's one thing that all women who successfully get lean and stay lean have in common, is consistency. Without it, you never get any momentum going. It's like taking two steps forward, only to take three steps back.
Many women allow the busy schedule to throw them off their regular eating schedule. They completely veer off their usual five or six small meals per day, or they start eating foods they would normally never eat (because "it's there").
Remember, you have to keep your metabolic engine reviving all year round. Once you have it going, it's fairly easy to keep it going. But once you lose it, it's very difficult to get it going again because you must overcome inertia all over again. (An object at rest tends to stay at rest!)
On a major holiday, when there's a big dinner scheduled, many women tend to skip their morning and afternoon meals to "save room" for the big one later. This is a sure-fire way to invite a binge that could set you back for days. Don't lose your consistency or your momentum.
Continue with your pattern of eating small, frequent meals all year round. All you have to do is count your Diwali dinners as one of your regular meals and keep them light.
Control your meal size. One of the most important rules to remember all through the holiday season is the law of energy balance, which states: To lose body fat, you must consume fewer calories than you burn up each day. There's no reason to deprive yourself of things you enjoy. Just make sure you don't overindulge.
As long as you enjoy your favourite foods in moderation, and keep working out, it probably won't end up around your waistline.
Don't buy into the low standards and expectations of others.Keep your standards high, but don't expect others' standards to be as high as yours. Remember that unlike most people, you've decided to stay strong.
Don't let their negative influence drag you down. When you've reached your pre-ordained limit, say, "no, I am already stuffed". When they offer you seconds on dessert, politely say, "no thank you, it was absolutely delicious, but I'm full, I can't eat another bite."
Make the best choices possible in every situation. You might have noticed tables that are covered with yards of chips, dips, ticks, rolls, salami, punch, liquor, and a seemingly endless assortment of other goodies at parties? Well, did you also notice that there is usually a tray full of carrot sticks, cauliflower, celery and other healthy snacks too?
No matter where you are, you always have choices. Sometimes you have to choose between bad and worse. Other times you can choose between good and better. But always make the best choice possible based on whatever your options are.
Drink, lot of water to beat the heat.As a rule, drink at least eight glasses of water a day. When you plan to attend a big dinner party, drink a few extra glasses to keep your appetite under control. If you think you are hungry, drink a glass or two of water first; then decides if you really are hungry and not just thirsty. Do not fill up on water with the intent of decreasing your appetite and/or hunger pangs.
Filling up on water for this purpose is another example of the diet mentality. It will make you feel bloated and temporarily full instead of eating a well-balanced meal. However, by the next meal, you may be so famished that you eat anything in sight. Filling up on water to feel artificially full is not dealing with your physical hunger, but rather avoiding it. It will only reappear even greater later on.
Many of the fluids we drink are in fact dehydrating. Alcohol, coffee, and tea are just some of the fluids that don't return water to our system after it is lost; they simply do not work to re-hydrate us. Try to drink water throughout the day to maintain a steady state of hydration. If your body isn't getting enough fluids, it may send signals to you to eat more to obtain these fluids. So here's to happy festivities.
